Mangaluru, Dec 19: St Agnes College celebrated ‘Navidad’, a Christmas programme on December 18 in the college auditorium.
The programme began with a prayer song that was followed by welcome dance. Prof Saramma Jayaraj, head, department of Zoology and convener of the programme, welcomed the gathering. The students of PG studies presented a beautiful tableau on the birth of Jesus that was followed by Christmas carol singing, exciting medley of dances and theme-based Kannada play by UG students.
Dr Derek Lobo, former regional advisor for South East Asia, United Nations – WHO and former president, CASK, Mangaluru was the chief guest. He delivered the Christmas message and stressed on the importance of being compassionate and empathetic towards the needy and the poor around. Patricia Lobo, senior coordinator, Training and School Relationship, The Teacher Foundation and professional soft skill trainer and Sr Dr Maria Roopa, joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions were the guests of honour.
One of the best practices of St Agnes College is to help a needy family during Christmas time towards providing a shelter for the homeless. This year the beneficiary is Maria Amina, a handicapped woman and family. Principal Sr Dr M Jeswina introduced the family members to the gathering and handed over the contribution to her. She also shared Christmas cheers with all of them. Prescilla Topno, II BSc. and Brilita Cutinha, III BCA compered the programme. Seemanthini, assistant professor, department of Computer Applications rendered vote of thanks.
