Puttur, Oct 29: In connection with the complaint of morphing of the pictures of Tipu Sultan and Siddaramaiah on Facebook by unscrupulous persons, people of the region, under the leadership of Muslim Citizens Union, had come together to lay siege to Uppinangady police station in the taluk on the night of Saturday, October 28. The plan to gherao the police station was withdrawn later, on getting the information that the accused had been arrested again.
On Friday last, on behalf of youth Congress, a complaint was filed in Uppinangady station, naming the accused as Sadanand and Yogish Prabhu, holding them responsible for posting pictures of chief minister,Siddaramaiah and Tipu Sultan duly making changes in the pictures to make them look ugly. In a swift operation, Uppinangady police had arrested Sadanand on Friday itself, and registered first information report.
A delegation representing the above organization, which accused the police of allowing Sadanand to go home on Friday night, came to Uppinanday police station on Saturday afternoon and held discussions with Puttur rural police inspector, Gopal Naik. They warned the policen that unless the accused are immediately arrested, the Muslim Citizens Union will lead people and lay siege to Uppinangady police station on Saturday night.
Hundreds of Muslims, in accordance with this warning, had gathered in front of Malikuddeenar Jumma Masjid at Uppinangady for mobbing Uppinangady police station. Realizing that the issue might aggravate, the police had arrested Sadanand again and kept him in the police station. The leaders of the organization were intimated about this development after which the decision to lay siege to the police station was dropped.
