Udupi, Oct 23: Police personnel of Kaup station, who raided a house at Mulur which functioned as illegal slaughterhouse, recovered 90 kg beef. They also rescued three male calves from the house.
All the four accused involved with the crime succeeded in fleeing from the clutches of policeman and escaping.
Based on the tip off that illegally cattle were being slaughtered in a shed adjacent to the house of Abdul Khader from Mulur, police personnel led by Kaup station house officer, Nityananda, raided the shed at around 3.30 am. The accused, seeing the police, entered a waiting Maruti Omni van and fled away in the vehicle. The police have collected details of those who ran away as house owner, Abdul Khader, and another person known as Chandran alias Jayachandran. They are now trying to nab the culprits.
All the the rescued animals were entrusted to a cow shletter. The seized beef, after due legalprocess, has been buried as per practice. The police, who have registered under legalprovisions like theft of cattle, violence against animals, and cow slaughter, investigating the matter.
