Dubai: Life beyond oil - UAE is serious on its Mars Mission

From desert to Mars

Dubai, Oct 23 (ET):UAE has appointed a minister of Artificial Intelligence as part of the Arab state's ambition to be at the forefront of the global technological revolution and also a life beyond oil. Emirates, as it is popularly known, sees this appointment as step to its ambitious plan to build homes on the planet Mars by 2117.

It will put it in the elite club trying to put people on Mars, which includes the US, China, Russia and a consortium of European nations. The UAE plans to have a fully functioning city of 600,000 people on Mars.

Effort to establish a space industry

The Gulf state has launched a multipronged effort to establish a space industry in which it has invested more than $5 billion, and that includes four satellites already in space and another due to launch in 2018.

Economy beyond oil

This is how the city, which will house close to 60,000 will look like. UAE is keen to diversify its economy beyond oil into high-technology sectors, and its oil reserves give it immense financial power that it could use to buy expertise.

UAE Space Agency

A UAE Space Agency will be set up to supervise the mission and develop a space technology industry in the country, a government statement said.

Many facilities

The Mars city will be made of several domes along with latest techniques that will support the structures. The project will include laboratories for food. It will also have the facility of soil testing and research about food security for the future.

Unmanned probe to Mars by 2021

United Arab Emirates also plans to send an unmanned probe to Mars by 2021, in the Arab world’s first mission to another planet.

In India we can make a law that all Rowdy Sheeter's if they reach certain points based on their conviction then they would be automatically transferred to Mars mission. This would serve two purpose as some would lead a normal life due to the law & some of them might opt for the mission being bold, with good health & lots of stamina. It's a win win situation for everyone.

Dear Vijay, for us it may not make any sense. But for the future generation, it does make a sense. We already spoilt this earth for our greedy needs. Which is inevitable. So it’s our responsibility to give them/Search for other alternative which is Mars, which has similar atmosphere that of earth.

Due to climate change, in a few decades, the gulf region will be so hot , that they might need technologies to terraform the region itself.

Yes you can. You need to approach the agencies in the countries where they have mission for sending humans to Mars. It would take almost a year to reach Mars. They would check & let you know if you one of those lucky one's in this birth itself & train you for years for mission to Mars. It all depends on your health, stamina & many other things. If you become eligible they would sponsor you & you won't have to pay anything from out of pocket. But it's one way ticket.

So many countries are planning to reduce usage of fossil fuel starting with Motor Vehicles. Slowly all the vehicles would be replaced with electric, hydrogen fuel cell, CNG etc., We have to drastically reduce our dependence on oil to save our planet for future generation to prevent rise of sea level due to global warming. Also we need a place other than our planet for our growing population with demand for more resources. The next closest somewhat habitable planet is Mars.
