Udupi, Oct 20: In a heart-warming gesture underlining the spirit of unity, Udupi district All Muslim Friends organized Diwali celebrations along with Christian and Hindu brethren at Clock Tower, near service bus stand, Udupi here on Thursday, October 19.

Ansar Ahmed said, "The government should provide a land to celebrate all the festivals where people from across religions can gather together. All of us lived in harmony around 30 years back. But today, humanity is fast disappearing because of caste conflict. India is known for its cultural diversity where we respect each other’s religious sentiments. We are all children of one mother, that is India. That is why other countries respect India. India is known for its unity in diversity.”

Addressing the gathering, Amzad Hejamadi said, "Earlier, there was no discrimination between caste and religion. But today caste conflicts are increasing. This has led to a decline in harmony and peace between communities. An Iftar Koota was organized to promote harmony among Hindus and minority communities. The event was mooted by Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Paryaya Pejawar Math who is presently in his fifth Paryaya.

"In support of Swamiji's intentions, this Sauharda Diwali has been organized. Let this light bring prosperity and brightess in every home and mind. Let the spark of light be found in us throughout the year," he added.

Arif Doddanagudde, Ravi Shetty, Dennis Perampalli, Rehamathulla, Sahil and others were present for the Diwali celebrations. All the guests lit the diyas around the Clock Tower and shared sweets on this auspicious occasion.

The darkness of 'communal divide' has to be driven away, by jointly celebrating the festival of lights.

At the end of the day, we are all one. 'Jai Tulunadu', 'Jai Karnataka', 'Jai Bharat Mata'!

This is the high time we need this kind of gestures. We used to do the same during our childhood but now because of some organisations wanting to show their caste is high class, we have descriminations between people who lived together all these years.
People need peace, love and not hate.

When Chaddis started infecting local populace of coastal Karnataka with their evil cow belt politics... This type of celebrations stopped...
The cow protection movement started in Udupi which spread to whole of Coastal Karnataka in the early 80's along with babri masjid demolition movement which was also started by the same person in Udupi spoilt the cosmopolitan nature of Mangalore and surrounding area..Credit for spoiling such peaceful atmosphere should go to him...
Before that all festivals were secular in nature...I remember in my younger days visiting local jaatres, celebrating Bisu,Drinking Pale trees bitter juice during aati...was part of that inclusive culture...
30 to 40 yrs back it was part of the most of the household..Now I don't ...Not only me most of them..When Sanghis started giving communal color to every festival it stopped..
Those who are bursting crackers maynot who was the mastermind behind spoiling that peaceful atmosphere of Coastal Karnataka...Don't pretend to be not knowing it....
    Anyhow Happy Tulunaduda Parba

It was a normal practice about 30 - 40 years ago in our district.
During our childhood we all celebrated festivals like Diwali together with our Hindu neighbors.
Sadly it has become a rare thing now and is reported in the news papers.
