Mangaluru, Oct 17: Talented cricketer Tanush Kotian, whose roots are deeply connected to the Dakshina Kannada district, has made it to the Indian under-19 cricket team.
A string of top notch scores propelled the off-spinning all-rounder into the U19 team that will play Asia Cup in Malaysia. The Asia Cup will be held in Malaysia from November 9 to 20.
Born to Karunakar and Mallika Kotian who are from Pangala in Udupi, Tanush has been born and brought up in Chembur in Mumbai. He did is schooling from Class 1 to 7 at St Joseph School, Vikhroli and Class 8 to 10 at V N Sule Guruji English Medium School. He pursued his secondary school and college at Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College.
A self made cricketer, Tanush never had any godfather or coach to bring his best on the field. A young Tanush watched others playing cricket which attracted him to the game.
Tanush’s father used to play 'A' Division cricket for Shantibhai Seth Memorial CC. He also used to train Tanush during his free time. The young lad picked up the game well watching small teams and prominent teams alike. He also used to watch videos on YouTube to perfect the art of batting, bowling and fielding.
The very talented all-rounding talent has scored some impressive figures with the bat and ball playing for his college team, various clubs and Mumbai.
A few of his noteworthy performances were like a well-crafted century and 4/16 for Amhi Mulundkar team, a flawless 121 off just 80 balls in the all important quarter final clash between Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College and KJ Somaiya, and a swashbuckling unbeaten 56 off 31 balls for CricketGraph Eleven. Coming down the order, Tanush smashes fours and sixes at will.
Tanush's 116 runs and 4 wicket haul in U19 Narain Tamhane Trophy was recently listed as the third best performance in Mumbai's club cricket performance by a leading cricket website.
In a match between two strong sides namely Mumbai and Gujarat Vinoo Mankad Trophy U19 match, the left-arm spinner yielded magic with the ball as he came up with excellent bowling figures of 6/31 in 10 overs. Tanush generally bowls in the right areas and is one powerful striker of the cricket ball.
Speaking to daijiworld, Tanush said, “My parents, relatives, friends and teachers are happy with my achievement. My feat of bagging nine wickets and scoring 120 runs in four Vinoo Mankad Trophy matches is being praised. Zonal cricket will begin from October 21 in which I will be playing for the Western Zone. The tournament will be played at Guwahati. I am hoping to do my best. All my hard work and dedication will be a success when I will play for the Indian cricket team. I strongly hope to play for the Indian team some day.”
