Udupi, Oct 17: A day after a similar protest in Mangaluru, the Udupi district BJP on Tuesday October 17 held 'Rasta Roko' or road blockade at Ambalpady bypass road here condemning Congress minister Roshan Baig for allegedly using unparliamentary language while speaking against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The party workers blocked the road and sat on the highway at Ambalpady.
Addressing the protest, BJP district president Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde said, "BJP condemns the use of abusive and derogatory words against the Prime Minister. Minister Roshan Baig was caught on camera using foul language to describe Modi at a party meeting in his constituency at Shivajinagar.
"A politician can speak about opposition parties but he cannot use abusive language targeting any person. Baig has also insulted BJP president Yeddyurappa with derogatory remarks. A citizen who has taken the oath to uphold the Constitution should be careful in using his words. Chief minister Siddaramaiah should expel him from the cabinet," he said.
BJP leader Uday Kumar Shetty said, "Baig has made an irresponsible statement. He said he spoke in Tamil without knowing the meaning of what he was speaking. It does not make sense."
BJP workers were arrested and later released near Chandumaidan ground.
Geethanjali Suvarna, Shyamala Kundar, Sandhya Ramesh, Naveen Kumar Kutyar and others were present in the protest.
