Mangaluru, Oct 16: MLA of Mangaluru South J R Lobo and mayor Kavitha Sanil, performed the groundbreaking ceremony of several development works at an estimated cost of Rs 5.14 crore here at Ladyhill circle on Monday, October 16.
Addressing the gathering, MLA J R Lobo said, “Mangaluru city is developing at a fast pace. Several development works worth approximately Rs 2,500 crore have been scheduled. Smart City project is also coming up, and development under ADB and Amruth fund is also on the cards. The upgrading of Bunder port costing Rs 100 crore is also in the pipeline which may take nearly three years for its completion. Mangaluru will completely change in the next three years. Roads and drainage system in the city will also be developed. Underground cables will be installed at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore out of which Rs 10 crore has been already sanctioned.”
Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “After the groundbreaking ceremony of the development works today, foundation stone for some more development works worth Rs 5 crore will be held next week. People are frequently complaining about dilapidated roads that are filled with potholes. Tender has been already issued. If we start the road repair works now, the tar will easily come off. So I assure that once the rain stops completely, potholes will be filled and the roads will be made convenient for vehicular movement.”
Development works
Road from Maroli temple to Shanthiguri will be developed spending Rs 30 lac, Rs 60 lac will be spent for development of Ladyhill circle under premium FAR fund, and Lalbagh circle will be developed under premium FAR fund spending Rs 55 lac. Road widening works from Durga Mahal to Bokkapatna worth Rs 94 lacs under premium FAR fund, road widening and drainage system from Balmatta road to Upper Bendur road worth Rs 2.5 crore under premium FAR fund, and Ladyhill Boloor road drainage system worth Rs 25 lac will also be undertaken.
