Udupi, Oct 15: The annual day and graduation ceremony of the third batch of BSc nursing and eleventh batch of DGNM was inaugurated on Friday October 13 by Dr Rajagopal K V, managing director of radiology professor and head of the department, department of radio diagnosis, KMC Manipal.
The programme was held on the college campus of Udupi Dhanvantari College of nursing and organized by the management, faculty and students of Udupi Dhanvantari College/School of Nursing (a unit of Sri Krishna Charitable Trust (R)).
On conferring the certificates to the outgoing students, Dr Rajagopal said, "Nursing is a noble profession that requires dedication. It is not an easy job. Nursing students must have in them strong values and compassion for the suffering. They need a kind heart to serve people in society. The profession requires determination and passion to understand the pulse of the sufferer.
"As many as 50% of the students study nursing, but only few of them enter the field. Sense of humour, discipline and patience are important ingredients in a nurse.
"There is no end to learning as diverse job opportunities are created. One must be more conscious when dealing with patients. Nurses and physicians have tremendous responsibilities. Slight negligence demands a high cost."
One of the guests, Dr Veena Gretta Tauro PhD, MSc (N) principal, Masood College School of Nursing, Mangaluru said, "The profession gives lots of experience. There is need to understand one's pulse. One should have enough compassion, dedication and commitment toward their career. End of graduation does not mean end of study. On the contrary it is the beginning of career life. Difficulties come for one to realize one's potential.
"Nurses should be the voice for the voiceless. Money and remuneration are not important in service. Sincerity, dedication, commitment matter in this noble profession. One must be ready to accept responsibility and only then can he be able to achieve success. If a person breaks down internally, a new life begins at that point. An outgoing student or graduate needs to be a model for the college."
