Moodbidri, Oct 15: A two-wheeler rider was crushed under a truck on the evening of Saturday October 14 when trying to avoid potholes. The incident happened at Beluvai downtown on Karkala-Moodbidri national highway 169.
In this incident, the pillion rider stands admitted into a hospital with serious injuries.
The deceased was Siddakatte Purushotham alias Dharnappa (35). He was a coolie. The injured pillion rider, identified as Sunil, was also a coolie by profession. Both were from Manchakal, Siddakatte, in Bantwal taluk.
It is said that Dharnappa, who was riding the vehicle towards the town from Karkala, lost control over his vehicle when negotiating potholes at Beluvai and the vehicle suddenly fell across the road. A truck that was following the motor bike instantly crushed the vehicle under its weight. Dharnappa, who suffered extensive injuries, died on the spot while the pillion rider survived with grave injuries.
A case about the accident stands filed in the town police station here. Police are investigating it.
