Udupi, Oct 14: "Nearly 5,053 works were sanctioned in the constituency, the last four years (from May 8, 2013 to October 12, 2017). A total of Rs 711 crore has been sanctioned," said district-in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj on Friday, October 13.
He was speaking at the review meeting with different departmental engineers, at Taluk Sabha Bhavan Udupi.
The various construction works - roads, bridges, buildings, vented dam, dredging, PWD works, water supply, river water conservation, SCP-TSP, Malpe beach road development , fisheries jetty, hospital building were discussed.
Minister Madhwaraj gave until December as a deadline for the completion of the proposed pending works and instructed speeding up of the works.
Concreting of Manipal road
Madhwaraj said, "The construction work of the Malpe-Manipal-Parkala highway was started at the cost of Rs 101 crore. Out of that, Rs 87 crore was reserved the for road project, and Rs 14 crore was reserved for the land acquisition process and other works. Once the alignment is approved by the union government, a DPR will be presented.
A special fund from the district administration of Rs 50 lac was released towards the temporary repair of Manipal highway. The central government did not release a single rupee for the repair work of the Manipal national highway," he said.
"Brahmavar road work worth Rs 2.5 crore, and Ambagilu- Manipal connecting road work costing Rs 5 crore should be completed before 15 days. The all PWD roads will be upgraded from 3.5 meters to 5.5 meters," he informed.
PWD road will see a widening of 5.5 metres. The completion of the project requires Rs 182 lac. A Rs 27.38 lac grant was sanctioned," said the minister, and instructed the official in charge to write a letter to the respective panchayat, seeking required funds.
Assistant director engineer, NHAI, Manjunath Nayak said, "A detailed project report of the Malpe -Theerthalli concrete road project that costs Rs 636 crores has been submitted to the central government. DPR of Malpe-Adi Udupi, Manipal-Parkala Highway Extension has been submitted to central government. Works are will be held four phases. A new land acquisition officer has been appointed for special land acquisition," Nayak added.
Bridges
"Neelavar Bridge shall be completed by the end of November," said minister Madhwaraj, and instructed the officer in-charge to invite rajya sabha member Oscar Fernandes to the inauguration programme.
He instructed the completion of Perampalli bridge before November 15.
"Kalsanka bridge widening work will get start by next month and completed by the end of December," informed PWD engineer DV Hegde.
Slum rehablitation under Housing Scheme
"At around 500 houses are allotted for families dwelling in the slum area. The project costs Rs 5.15 lac. The area include Hanumanthanagar, Rajivanagar, Kodavoor Palikekatte," said a Slum Development Corporation official.
An engineer said there was no fund available under the task force committee.
Other works
"Works at children and maternity hospital at Brahmavar are 20% complete. The project includes quarters for doctors and nurses.
A Mini Vidhana Soudha is being constructed at Bannanje in Udupi. The Rs 10-crore worth project should be completed by the end of December," instructed minister Madhwaraj. They also sent a proposal for releasing additional funds for the completion of the project.
"The sea wall at Malpe would be complete by next week.There will not be any problem of sea erosion after this," he said.
"Under the water supply project, 501 out of a total of 525 works have been completed. Four works are under progress and two are yet to start," informed a water supply department officer.
