Bantwal, Oct 13: The zilla panchayat (ZP) court here has granted interim stay against the process of evicting the commercial complex standing by the side of old taluk panchayat building at B C Road, which also is proposed to be cleared.
On behalf of various shopkeepers functioning in the commercial complex, advocate, Prasad Kumar Rai, had filed appeal in the court of the ZP president seeking to stay the drive to evict them. It was contended that in the general session of the taluk panchayat held held on April 17 this year, a decision to demolish the commercial complex that is solid, along with dilapidated tlauk panchayat building sanding by its side, had been taken. They had argued that demolishing of a strong building built by using public funds is illegal.
The petition has named taluk panchayat executive officer and president of the taluk panchayat as defendants. The court of the ZP president, which issued interim stay against implementation of the above resolution, adjourned hearing in the case to November 13. It also ordered the concerned to ensure that till that date appellants should not be denied power supply and water connection.
The taluk panchayat had planned to build a well-equipped private bus stand on public private participation (PPP) basis by demolishing the old taluk panchayat building, commercial complex, and office of the sub-registrar here.
