Mangaluru, Oct 11: A complaint stands lodged in Mulky police station about the theft of valuables including cash worth about four lac rupees in the early hours of Tuesday October 10. The house which was burgled is located at Sukhananda Nagar near Karnad, Mulky.
The police found during their investigation that the thieves used a key that had been kept inside the hall after locking the main door, by accessing it by using some instrument. By using the key so accessed, they easily entered the house. Owner of the house, Sudheer Shetty, as well as other family members had gone to bed at around 12.30 am on Tuesday. The thieves took away various gold ornaments kept inside the almirah and also Rs 90,000 in cash from the room in which some members of the family were sleeping.
It is suspected that the family members, who were in deep sleep, did not wake up by the sounds made by thieves. It is suspected that they would have sprayed some substances to ensure that they stayed asleep.
The thieves had switched off street lights before entering the house. They did not break or damage anything inside the house. The family members, who woke at 5.30 am, saw that the front door was half open. After Sudheer Shetty questioned other family members, the theft came to light.
Crime branch deputy commissioner of the city commissionerate, Uma Prashanth, Panambur assistant commissioner of police, Rajendra D S, and local police, visited the spot and took steps to hasten investigation. The investigation is currently being handled by station house officer of Mulky police station, Anantapadmanabha. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts also visited the spot to collect crucial evidences.
Police inspector of Mulky, Anantapadmanabha, also convened a meeting of villagers from the area and advised them about precautions to be taken and instructions to be followed to avoid such thefts.
