Mangaluru, Oct 6: A house was damaged at Tandolike Padu in Jappinamogaru here on the night of Thursday October 5, which resulted in a loss of around Rs 4 lac.

The house belongs to Jayadevan (72).

As per details, the compound wall belonging to the neighbour collapsed due to heavy rains and fell on the house of Jayadevan at around 9.30 pm on Thursday. Jayadevan’s wife Prema, their son Sudhir, daughter-in-law Soumya and grandchildren Anushka and Srikar were inside the house. Luckily they escaped from the house before further damage.

Kitchen of the house has been completely destroyed.

This was a miraculous escape for the inmates of the house which collapsed due to heavy rains. Thank God.

You are right, Jossey, but when the neighbour knows that his wall is in danger of collapsing - and parts of it had collapsed earlier due to heavy rains - isn't that negligence for not taking care, or demolishing weak walls so that neighbouring properties/owners do not become victims? I have a situation like this where despite parts of the wall collapsing, the neighbour just ignores his responsibility, and the MCC does nothing about it. Nature's fury is one thing; human negligence or refusal to take corrective measures is another.

Thank you lord for protecting everyone inside the house. House can be rebuilt with the help of generous people but loss of life cannot be brought back.
