Kundapur, Oct 6: It is seventeen days since miscreants assaulted cashier of the office of Kshetra Dharmasthala rural development project, Haladi zone, robbed cash and fled. Officials of the project and people held protest rally at Amasebail on October 5 against failure of the police to arrest the robbers even after so many days.
Earlier, a person came to Rattadi every Wednesday for collection of money from project members. Similarly cashier Preethi Kokkarne (23) had come to the office at Rattadi in the vehicle of project office. The vehicle had left the woman in the office in the morning and gone to the next office for collection of cash. Preethi had collected about Rs 2.24 lacs from members and was sitting alone when a person wearing helmet asked her the location of agricultural office at about 10 am.
While Preethi was explaining him the direction, the man hit her with a wooden log on her head, jaw and thigh, kicked her with his legs, picked the cash in the cash box and fled. Seventeen days have passed by after the incident. Police have failed to arrest the suspects.
In this connection, nearly two thousand members of Haladi zone of the project held protest rally from Amasebail government high school to Amasebail police station and handed over an appeal to the police inspector requesting to arrest the suspects soon. They warned of stronger protests if the arrests were delayed. Local people, various groups and organizations and elected representatives joined the protests.
Amasebail police sub inspector Sudarshan after receiving the appeal said that the suspects will be arrested soon. "Separate squads have been formed for the arrests and information is being gathered," he said.
More than two thousand members of the project held a meeting at Amasebail government high school premises before the rally. Amasebail charitable organization president and former MLA A G Kodgi received the appeal from the protesters and said that he will persuade the government and police department to nab the suspects.
