Mangaluru, Oct 5: BJP minority cell leader Rahim Uchil on Thursday October 5 stirred a controversy, with a claim that Congress activists had a role to play in the brutal murder of Zubair on the night of Wednesday October 4 at Mukkacheri.
Rahim Uchil in a statement to the media said that Zubair was a BJP member and that Congress activists murdered him.
Offended by the remark, local Congress leaders filed a complaint against Rahil Uchil in Ullal police station, demanding that he be arrested.
Ullal block Congress president Santhosh Shetty warned of protests in front of Ullal police station and said, "The allegation by Rahim Uchil is false and baseless. It is an attempt to mislead the investigation."
The complaint alleged that by making such an allegation, Rahim Uchil was trying to stir tension in the district, and spoil the image of Congress among the people.
Locals too gathered in big numbers in front of Ullal police station demanding immediate arrest of Zubair's killers.
It may be recalled that masked men who came in a bike attacked Zubair and Ilyas on the night of October 4. While Zubair died, Ilyas sustained injuries. It is suspected he was murdered out of personal enmity.
