Puttur, Oct 5: In connection with an incident in which a 20-year-old unmarried girl from Bagilugadde in Shiradi village in the taluk gave birth to a baby, the police have arrested her cousin brother. The lady had given birth to male baby on October 2, and in this connection, Sundar (30), son of the lady's paternal uncle, stands arrested.
In the past, the lady had said that she was attending computer training classes at Nelyady in the month of January this year, when she did not get a vehicle to return home after classes one day. "I was walking towards my home through deserted road, when an unidentified youth who came in a motor bike in a desolate place at Kudkoli in Udane village forcibly dragged me away and raped me. He also had threatened me to kill me if I informed anyone about this incident. Therefore, I had kept the incident under wraps," she had stated to the police.
Police circle inspector, Anil Kulkarni, when investigating the case, could smell something fishy in the story. When confronted, the lady confessed that when her parents were away, she was alone at home when her cousin brother, Sundar from near Patrame, visited her and developed physical relationship. She admitted that the baby she conceived and gave birth to, was born out of this relationship.
A team led by Uppinangady police sub-inspector, Nandakumar, in an operation, took accused Sundar into custody from Udane bus stand. He has since been produced in court.
