'Nava Karnataka Vision-2025' inaugurated in Udupi, Madhwaraj briefs on district's development

Udupi, Oct 4: District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj on Wednesday October 4 inaugurated Udupi district-level 'Nava Karnataka Vision-2025', an initiative of the Karnataka government, at TMA Pai hall, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal here.

Addressing the gathering, Madhwaraj said, "The government of Karnataka has introduced many programmes for the all-round development of the state. These projects will benefit not only common people but also the downtrodden in society. The poor need the government, unlike the rich. One should go and meet the poor and understanding their pain. The government can work for their betterment only if this is done. Social welfare measures are not enough for the development of the state. A person will not understand the poor by sitting in an air-conditioned cabin.

"‘Vision-2025’ is a farsighted project of chief minister Siddaramaiah for the next eight years. It is not a political manifesto, but a document to run the government," he added.

"The government has sanctioned Rs 270 crore for the expansion of the Varahi project aimed at providing 24x7 water supply for the district. The department concerned has taken up road widening work at a cost of Rs 14 crore at Ambagilu-Manipal-Malpe and other city roads. In all, the government has spent Rs 600 crore for the road construction work. More than Rs 13 crore has been given for beach development. Udupi is the only constituency getting electricity round the clock.

"I have no waiting list for sanctioning title deeds. All title deeds have been given to beneficiaries. As much as Rs 14 crore has been released for providing basic infrastructure to Government Women’s College and Government College Thenkanidiyur. A proposal has been approved to set up a government medical college near Brahmavar sugar factory," he said.

"Underground drainage water work at Manipal and Kallianpur has been taken up under KUDCEMP, for which a detailed project report has been prepared. A solid water management project work will be under taken, as per the guidelines of Vellore C Srinivasan, project director, Indian Green Service.

"A mini Vidhana Saudha project work is under progress. It is being constructing at a cost of Rs 10 crore. A high-tech bus stands will come up at Bannanje at a cost of Rs 35 crore. The government has been spending Rs 50 crore under DELTA scheme for constructing bus stands in Manipal, Malpe, Santhekatte roads.

"Work on three bridges has been completed. These are Ammunje-Parampalli-Parari bridge, Malpe-Padukere bridge and Kuradi-Neelavar bridge and other bridges like Kemmannu, Arur are in progress. About Rs 77.5 crore has been spent for building bridges alone."

Addressing himself to CM's secretary Thushar Girinath who was present, the minister said, "The delivery system should be improved. None of the poor should suffer in getting government benefits. The government intends to make people happier than ever before.

"Karnataka is the second highest tax collecting state in the country, next to Delhi," Pramod added.

CM secretary Thushar Girinath briefed the government’s ‘Vision 2025’ and its objectives.

In his address, he said, "The vision document project will not stop and will be continued for the next eight years. The vision's implementation will be completed by December 31, 2017. The Vision 2025 exercise will cover 13 sectors that have been carefully identified through a preliminary brainstorming process involving all heads of departments and cover a spectrum which will drive the state's future growth on key socio-economic and human development indicators.

"The sectors include agriculture and allied sectors, infrastructure, industrial development, services, education, employment and skill development, health and nutrition, rural development, social justice and empowerment, urban development, IT and BT among others apart from areas such as governance and law and order."

The session was held in five themes. Deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis welcomed the gathering.

ADC Anuradha G, CEO Shivanand Kapasi, Commissioner Manjunathayya, CMC Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, Taluk Panchayat president, Nalini Pradeep Rao, superintendent of police Sanjiv Patil and others were present.
