Kasargod, Oct 4: Vidyanagar police on Wednesday October 4 arrested a taxi driver for possessing four fake currency notes each of Rs 500 denomination.
The arrested has been identified as Perla Seraje resident Kamalaksha Poojary (44).
It is said that he got Rs 2,000 worth of petrol filled in his vehicle at a petrol pump in Uliathadka on October 4, and paid the amount in four currency notes of Rs 500 each.
Petorl pump owner Khader however grew suspicious on looking at the notes and immediately informed Vidyanagar police. The police arrived, verified the notes and took Kamalaksha into custody.
The police have confirmed that the notes are fake. The signature of Reserve Bank of India governor was found to be different.
Later, the police raided Kamalaksha's house but did not find any more notes.
Sources said that two persons have been arrested in the case.
Further investigations are on to locate the origin the fake notes.
