Udupi, Oct 3: Huge fire erupted at Raj Fish Mill, owned by district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj, at Malpe here on Tuesday October 3.
The mill caught fire at around 4.15 pm, reportedly due to short circuit. The boiler in the mill was gutted in the fire.
Workers who noticed fire in one of the boilers immediately ran out, thus saving themselves.
As the boiler was made of fibre, thick black smoke billowed out, causing anxiety and panic in the vicinity.
Malpe fire brigade staff and assistant inspector Bevappa Pategar rushed to the spot and led the operation to douse the fire. The fire fighters ensured that the fire did not spread and extinguished the flames within half an hour.
The loss is estimated at several lacs of rupees. No injuries were reported.
