Bengaluru, Oct 1: Karnataka BJP president B S Yeddyurappa on Sunday lambasted Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya for hurting the sentiments of the people by his nasty comments pertaining to Ayudha Pooja celebrations held in Vidhana Soudha.
“The social welfare minister may have his personal views and opinions on certain issues but as minister he has no right to hurt the feelings and sentiments of the people who undertake religious rituals with great reverence,’’ the BJP leader said.
“Anjaneya does a great disservice to the people he represents," Yeddyurappa said while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a BJP programme organised at Devanahalli.
It may be recalled that Anjaneya had spoken against performing of pooja on the occasion of Ayudha Pooja in Vidhana Soudha.
Yeddyurappa further said that he would like to ask the chief minister Siddaramaiah as to how far it is fair and right to keep Anjaneya in the cabinet after he (Anjaneya) having shown "contempt and disrespect" to the people.
"Does Anjaneya mean to say that all those who conducted Ayudha Pooja in the state secretariat in the past were wrong? This needless and anti-people statement shows his arrogance," the BJP State president said.
In response to a question about the arrest of Jagadish Karanth, a senior functionary of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Yeddyurappa said, "Having utterly failed to maintain law and order, the Congress government headed by Siddaramaiah has resorted to cowardice act of arresting RSS functionaries on non-issues.”
“The Congress is trying to vitiate the atmosphere by targeting the Sangh Parivar. This has created a strong resentment among the people against the Congress government,’’ he added.
On Siddaramaih’s claim that he would continue to be the chief minister after 2018 elections and will perform Dasara Pooja again next year, Yeddyurappa said the people have decided to defeat Congress lock, stock and barrel in the elections and bring BJP back to power with comfortable majority.
"BJP has earned the goodwill and trust of the people. We have god's blessings. It is for sure that we will come to power and perform Dasara Pooja next year in a grand scale," Yeddyurappa added.
