Shivamogga, Sep 28: In spite of repeated requests from national leadership of his party, Karnataka state BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa, appears to be finding it hard to severe his association with Shikaripur constituency. "Shikaripur happens to the constituency which gave me political stability and empowered me. My earnest desire is to fight the next assembly election from this constituency," he clarified. At the same time, he termed the information about decision taken to field him from Terdal constituency as not true.
Speaking to media persons, Yeddyurappa clarified that he will abide by the decision taken by the top leadership of the party. "I am under immense pressure from voters and party activists from Shikaripur not to desert that constituency. They say that I will win from any constituency, but urged me to stay connected with them. Therefore, I will do my best to convince the party leaders to assign me Shikaripur constituency," he explained.
He said that there is no truth in the rumour that he will fight from Terdal constituency in Bagalkot district, adding that he has been getting requests from various places like Kalaburagi, Belagavi and Bidar.
At the same time, minister, Umashree, who represents Terdal constituency in the assembly, said that she will not go back from contesting from Terdal constituency fearing Yeddyurappa's presence. "I will not retract my decision to fight the election from Terdal. I will fight from this constituency even if my opponents are more eminent than Yeddyurappa," she asserted.
