Mangaluru, Sep 27: A meeting presided over by district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai, was held here on Tuesday September 26 to finalize the jurisdictions of new taluks being formed in Dakshina Kannada district. However, the meeting failed in its aim as MLAs representing Puttur and city (north) constituencies remained absent.

The meeting was meant to decide about the respective jurisdictions of Moodbidri and Kadaba taluks which will be newly formed in Dakshina Kannada district. MLAs, Moideen Bava and Shakuntala Shetty, were not present at the meeting. As such, minister, Rai, instructed the deputy commissioner to finalize the jurisdictions only after holding discussions with MLAs and other local people's representatives.

There is confusion on some issues about the new taluks. Moideen Bava has expressed opposition to the proposal to include Gurpur revenue division in Moodbidri taluk. Although there is a feeling that places like Thenka Edapadavu, Kompadavu, Kelenjaru and some other villages can be included in Moodbidri taluk, discussions need to be held before the issue can be sorted out. Therefore, the minister asked the concerned to send proposal to include only the local revenue division to Moodbidri taluk at present and to discuss inclusion of other villages in Gurpur revenue division, Mulky, and some villages in Beltangady taluk, after discussing the issues with the local people's representatives.

MLA, Abhaya Chandra Jain, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Dr K G Jagadisha, additional deputy commissioner, Kumar, zilla panchayat member, P P Varghese Kadaba and several others attended the meeting.
