Kundapur, Sep 25: A youngster lost his life on the spot after the motor bike he was riding hit a road divider on national highway 66 near Trasi Maravanthe beach on the night of Sunday September 24.

The victim was Fleming Mendonca, a student of a private ITI based in the town. He was a native of Tallur near here.

Fleming was going towards Bhatrkal with his KTM motor bike. Perhaps, failing to observe that there was a divider, he continued to ride his two-wheeler at considerable speed and hit the divier with force as a result of which both the persons on the bike were thrown on to the road.

Both suffered serious injuries to their heads. Fleming died on the spot, while the pillion rider, Joyson Mendonca (18) who sustained serious injuries, is being treated in the intensive care unit of KMC Manipal.

Both the youngsters were close relatives and were bound for Bhatkal. Ibrahim Gangolli, who operates an ambulance service at Gangolli rushed to the spot immediately after coming to know of the accident, and took the injured to Manipal. A case about the accident was registered in Gangolli police station.

    oh god Another accident. I feel highways must have proper lumination and marking for dividers. Here perhaps the young men would nto have noticed the divider and hit the divider. Feeling very sad. I get sacred to drive now on highways. I am always keeping my speed to less than 60km per hour Unless urgent action is taken to make highways safer we will loose many lives on our roads

    Indian roads, which account for the highest fatalities in the world, became yet more dangerous in 2015 with the number of deaths rising nearly 5% to 1.46 lakh. This translates to 400 deaths a day or one life snuffed out every 3.6 minutes, in what an expert described as a "daily massacre on our roads".The increasing number of fatalities and road crashes - up from 4.89 lakh in 2014 to over five lakh in 2015 - indicated how a slew of initiatives taken by the Centre and state governments for road safety had had little impact.Despite having 99 million fewer people and fewer vehicles, the number of deaths in road accidents in India is more than twice the number of people killed similarly in China, according to a government report.
    There were nine road accidents that killed three people every 10 minutes in 2015, according to new national data, an increase of nine per cent over four years.

    Road accidents killed 148,000 people in 2015 compared to 136,000 in 2011, according to the Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Road accidents accounted for 83 per cent of all traffic-related deaths in India and 43 per cent of all accidental deaths in 2015.
    Even though this toll operated road provide some convenience to the motorist it is one of the substandard roads no where close to the International standard.
    This poorly lit roads in its entire stretch of the road has no reflectors to the barriers or paints. No hard shoulders in case of emergency stop. No reflective lane dividers to alert the motorist from swaying. No proper signage. No rest area for the heavy vehicles. No lane discipline for light and heavy vehicles.
    In a billion populated nation death hardly matters.If our national highways don't planned to save lives, why do we pay tolls every 50KM of our journey?
    Where is all road tax go?Why our annual budget don't give details on expenditure on road taxes?

    Sorry sister Anita, I disagree with your comments totally, The almighty has given us this one beautiful life,(body, mind, heart and soul), to live to the fullest, trusting in him at all times, he has placed us here on earth to bring his kingdom on earth by preaching the 'Good News ' to all, and not by losing one's life young, read the scriptures and know that the Lord has said "with longlife I will satisfy you". Read the psalm of King David and you will know upto what age one is supposed to live.
    It is not God's way of taking life (young or old),but of the evil one (the who wants to rule over this world and every individual in mankind), So God's plan for us is eternal life (that is to live in his presence even after giving up this physical earthly body). And to clarify one more point, God is no longer angry with us, for he poured out his wrath (anger) of our sins on his only begotten son Jesus on the day he took the cross, the burden of our sin.

    Kundapur to Byndoor, is open road, open sea, no proper foot path, most of the time its raining in this area. Most of the places the raise of the road is too high from ground level, two wheelers cannot drive on footpath on emergencies. These are the main reasons.

    RIP!!The roads from Mangalore- Kundapur n ahead are very puzzling w/o proper lighting, diversion indicators, reflectors at night making them very dangerous for those riding such hi power bikes!!

    RIP. No helmet No safety......... youngster does not hesitate to ride a bike on dirty roads, but they hesitate to wear helmet while riding. No one can protect or advice them in a better way than God gives punishment like this. Though, they do not afraid...... READY TO RACE ( DIE )

    Two faults- driver's young age and you can see the type of bike and the display at Back of bike says ready to race. You can understand by this. Secondly the dividers must be highlighted with radium stickers and lit up with proper street lights so motorists can easily see them.

    Children died in front of parents so un digestable. Give birth, give education, give everything and these children have no knowledge of their life and their importance to the family. Now a days youngters especially boys go to the beaches and die there, go to the river and there also they die and road accidents.

    Young blood and young friends. Same family children died. So sad to hear. Let god Almighty give strength to bear the pain to the parents and family members of Fleming Mendonca

    Young generation had to be educated so that they can take care of their lives.

    Give a vehicle to a person below 30 years of age to drive, and the vehicle will certainly go out of control!

    The Indian roads and the Indian vehicles are not suitable for any driver under 30 years of age.

    And the vehicles becomes outright dangerous in the hands of someone in early 20s.
