Puttur: St Philomena College holds ‘Samskritika Sourabha’

Puttur, Sep 20: The department of Kannada and Samskriti, government of Karnataka, in association with St Philomena College here, on Monday, September 18, organised ‘Samskritika Sourabha’ in the college auditorium.

President of DK Zilla Panchayath Meenakshi Shanthigodu inaugurated the programme and said, "Dakshina Kannada district is popular as the cradle of rich cultural heritage of Karnataka. Here various forms of folk dances like Pili Vesha (Tiger dance), Karadi Vesha (Bear dance), are performed in a fascinating manner during special occasions. It is the duty of everyone to preserve and promote our unique cultural heritage."


    
















President of Puttur taluk panchayath Bhavani Chidananda, principal prof Leo Noronha and campus director Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro participated as the chief guests. President of Puttur municipal council Jayanthi Balnadu presided over the programme.

This one day cultural presentation ‘Samskritika Sourabha’ by the senior artists of DK district included Karnataka Saxophone music by Chandrashekhara Kananthoor and team, Hindustani music by Vibha Nayak Mangaluru and team, light music by Jagadisha Acharya Puttur and team, folk song by Shivananda Shenoy Puttur and team, group dance by Vidwan U K Praveen Mangaluru and team, Veeragase by Ramesh B K Vittal and team, tiger dance by Vijay R Belthangady and team, drama by Mallika Shetty Siddakatte and team and Gamaka Vachana by Yajnesh Hosabettu and team.

Members of Performing Arts Association performed a prayer. Assistant director, department of Kannada and Samskriti, DK district Chandrahasa Rai B delivered the introductory speech. Student Welfare officer Dr Vijaya Kumar M welcomed the gathering. Assistant professor of Commerce Dinakara proposed the vote of thanks. Student Welfare officer Bharathi S Rai coordinated the programme. Assistant professor of Business Administration Prashanth Rai compered the programme.
