Mangaluru, Sep 15: A passenger who was caught at Mangaluru International Airport here on Friday September 15 for trying to smuggle ganja to a Gulf country, managed to run away from the airport.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Haneef, was about to board the IX 821 flight to Doha from here, when he was caught by the customs officials.
Haneef is a native of Kozhikode, Kerala. The customs officials grew suspicious of Haneef and subjected him to a thorough inspection, during which, he was caught carrying ganja.
The officials seized 4.5 kg of ganja from the accused. But within minutes of catching him, Haneef managed to flee from the airport. Customs officials failed to give any explanation on the above.
Earlier it was reported that Haneef was arrested.
A case stands registered at Bajpe police station. It is said that a search operation has begun to locate Haneef.
