Bengaluru: Modus operandi, pistol type used in Pansare, Kalburgi, Gauri murders similar - CID

Bengaluru, Sep 15 (PTI): The CID will share the details of its probe into the killing of rationalist M M Kalburgi with the Special Investigation Team probing the Gauri Lankesh case, a top official said today.

Gauri was shot dead outside her house by unidentified men who came on a motorcycle on September 5. The modus operandi bore a grim resemblance to the way rationalists Govind Pansare, Narendra Dabholkar and Kalburgi were gunned down.

Additional director general of police (CID) C H Pratap Reddy told reporters that the CID had succeeded in establishing that a similar type of pistol was used to gun down Govind Pansare, Narendra Dabholkar and Kalburgi who was killed in August 2015.

"The modus operandi in all the three previous cases was similar. Murderers came on motorcycles and shot them dead. Initial reports suggest that in the Gauri Lankesh case too, the assailants came on a bike and shot her dead," he said.

However, he said at this point it would be premature to say it was the handiwork of the same gang who killed Kalburgi.

"The SIT is working on it and they are better positioned to say anything on this," Reddy said.
Even 11 days after the incident that caused nationwide anger and protests, the SIT is yet to get any breakthrough into the case.

The SIT has said it was also looking into whether any right-wing organisation was involved or it was the handiwork of Naxalites, who were reportedly unhappy with the efforts of Gauri to bring them into the mainstream.

A 21-member SIT headed by IGP (Intelligence) B K Singh is probing the case and the state government has also announced a Rs 10 lakh reward to anyone providing clues about the killing.

The perpetrators of the murder have not been using mobile phones. “We are working on some old means to trace the accused.”

The SIT should crack this case so that freedom of Speech is excercised without fear in our country. Karnataka Police should prove to our country that they are proficient and capable when compared to others.

Chor party may go to any limit to defame BJP and remain in power. SIT and CID is just to erase all clues in case CBI come into picture after next elections. When they have attempted to kill Modi in Gujarat, this lady is nothing.

Our Home Minister has recently told that "We have clues about the killer" then what happened to arrest him? There is no meaning in telling about the pistol the killer has used. Arrest the killer soon if you have clues.

CID shouldn't involve any crime investigation. They will not bring out the real truth, just what Government wants to hear. I don't trust CID and ACB under Siddu's rule.

Is this a news , even I know the weapon was same , it's all over news ..7. Some mm..it's the weapon easily available in Karnataka,Maharashtra.
And assailants came on bike...coming to fact that bike riding in past was possible by only city people, now even villagers can ride bike...it s handiwork of people living across border of Karnataka in Maharashtra villages . Seeing the fact that in kalburgi or pansare killing ,they were never caught, police is active in cities very much , but in villages u hardly come across police . I feel they must be living in villages across border of state ...

If Mr. Pratap Reddy has taken up the case for investigations it is only a question of a few days before the the murderer is apprehended and arrested.

Nothing has escaped Mr. Reddy's sight. He has his own ways to deal with situations like these.
