Mangaluru, Sep 13: It was cuteness overloaded at Kadri Shree Manjunatheshwara Temple here on Wednesday September 13 as hundreds of children of all age groups participated in 'Sri Krishna Vesha' competition organize by Kalkura Prathistana on the occasion of ‘Shri Krishna Janmashtami’.
Accompanied by their equally enthusiastic parents, children dressed in colourful attires depicting Lord Krishna filled the temple premises with laughter and chatter.
The programme was inaugurated by Laxminarayana Asranna by lighting the ceremonial lamp. He dwelt on the importance of holding such events to promote and preserve culture and tradition especially among the new generation, and lauded the organizers for holding the event. He also wished good luck to the participants.
Pradeep Kumar Kalkura recalled the journey of the annual competition that began 32 years ago with just 8 participants, and which has today grown into a national-level contest with thousands of children participating with vigour and enthusiasm.
The competition was held at different locations namely, Sri Mahaganapathi temple, Abhisheka Mandira, near Ashwatha Katte, Shri Krishna Janma Mahotsava Samithi Vedike, Ganapati Temple, Kalyana Mantapa, Manjushree, and the main stage simultaneously.
Competions were held for different age groups, including infants. Some of the categories were ‘Kanda Krishna’ for infants, ‘Muddu Krishna’ and ‘Thunta Krishna’, ‘Bala Krishna’, ‘Nanda Gokula’, 'Sri Krishna', 'Geeta Krishna', 'Yasha Krishna' and 'Radha Krishna'.
All participants were given idols of Lord Krishna, certificates, books on the subject, flutes other gifts.
Chairman of AJ Hospital and Research Centre A J Shetty, CMD of Karnataka Bank Jayaram Bhat and others were present.
