Udupi, Sep 13: People are passionate about various subjects. But only a few have a passion for serving the society in spite of difficulties in life. Ramanji Namma Bhoomi is one such, who has worked towards helping the poor and has an uncommon profession.
Every Krishna Janmashtami here, Ramanji tries a new concept for raising funds for poor and needy families. With the help of his friends and like-minded people he works towards doing something for the society.
Ramanji took shelter in Namma Bhoomi and has been closely associated with the NGO, situated in Kundapur, since childhood.
He has acted in several short movies, one of which was 'Real Heroes'. He is also a theatre and a Yakshagana artiste.
Ramanji has been engaged in social service since five years. This year, Ramanji plans to act as 'Marikadu' in the eponymous Kannada adaptation of 'Macbeth' by Jnanapeetha awardee Chandrashekhara Kambara. The play is the story of deceit, treason, murder, and power hungry people, and includes three lady black magicians. The story talks about the reaction of nature to human's anti-nature activities.
The concept and design will be by famous artists Prashant Udyavar and Bhuvan Manipal.
Ramanji had also enacted as Nagasadhu in 2013, a Mayan, Thaiyyam in 2015 and as centaurs in Chronicles of Narnia, in 2016.
Ramanji got a tremendous response from the public in last few years. This year he would like to raise more funds with his friends.
He is set to entertain on Wednesday, September 13, starting early in the day. He will entertain people for two days on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami. He expects the total cost of the costume to be around Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000, minus other expenses.
Social worker Nityananda Olakadu and Rohit and other friends will join hands in the endeavour.
"I enjoy entertaining people with my skills. I was encouraged and supported by my friends, all through. I would like to donate the collected funds to Kalwari Old-age Home in Korangrapady, Udupi, this year. I was unable to collect funds in and around the city, and therefore, request monetary help from sympathetic donors, well wishers and philanthropists to join hands with me.” says Ramanji.
