Bengaluru, Sep 13: As per the post-mortem report, Gauri Lankesh was shot dead from close range and she died instantly. And only one bullet made her breathe her last.
The report, which was submitted to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), says that Gauri was killed by a single bullet that was fired at her on her back. The bullet pierced her left lung and heart and killed her within seconds.
Gauri was shot dead on September 5 when she came from her office and entered her house at Rajarajeshwari Nagar in city at around 7.45 pm.
It is assumed that other two bullets were fired earlier from front at her abdomen. Then the third bullet was fired from behind probably when she tried to run away from the assailants.
Gauri must have survived only for a minute, say experts after examining the injury to her heart and lungs.
Experts also say that the post-mortem report is of limited help now as all the bullets which entered the body of Gauri exited from her body. Three entry as well as exit wounds are found on her body.
If any bullet was retrieved from her body, it could have provided more information to the forensic experts on the firearm used, possible range from where the bullets were fired and some more ballistic details. But forensics do not have much to offer in this case.
Now the police will investigate on the cartridges and bullet fragments they have collected from the crime spot.
SIT officials believe and insist that a trained man fired the bullets at Gauri after analysing the CCTV footage of the shooter.
