Udupi: 23-year-old drowns at Malpe beach, another youth rescued

Udupi, Sep 12: A youngster died while another was rescued after they were swept away at Malpe beach here on Tuesday September 12.

The deceased has been identified as Kiran (23) from Teerthahalli.

His friend Abhishek (22) from Hosanagar was rescued by the lifeguards at the beach.

It is learnt that four persons including Kiran and Abhishek had been to Malpe beach for an outing. The two youths decided to go for a swim, while the other two stayed back.

Kiran was pulled in by the strong waves and got washed away, and Abhishek rushed to his rescue, but he too began to struggle. The lifeguards who were at the spot managed to rescue Abhishek, but Kiran had lost his life by the time he was brought ashore.

The group had come for RUDSET training at Brahmavar and had already finished 26 of the 30-day programme. On Tuesday, they had a marketing assignment as part of the training and had come to Malpe.

Locals and fire personnel helped in the rescue operation.

A case has been registered.

    During the monsoon season the sea is rough and most of the visitors who come from far away places does not understand the nature of sea current . In some of the beaches as per District Administrative orders , barricades ( danger line and red flags ) are put so that visitors do not cross this lines. However it is very sad to note that inspite of the local life guards requesting the visitors not to cross the danger line , they start arguing with the local life guards and people who know he situation of sea current well . This matter ends up in picking quarrel and heated arguments . This generally happens with youngster who always feel that they can handle all situation while in sea.

    My suggestion is that all visitors to beaches must abide by the local life guards instructions. After all it is for our own safety they advise the general public .

    May His Soul Rest in Peace.... Authorities Pls Pls Pls Listen Can you Plese Set Up a Danger Line (Rope with marking ) In Sea Shore the No one should cross the Danger Line Which I have seen in Beaches in Abroad and also Don't Allow anybody to Swim after Dark or after SUN Set...... Make this rule applicable irrespectively.....and also Authorities please provide a Life Jacket for the boats which go to St' Marys Island.......

    Very sad to know a young man was drowned at Malpe beach while his friend was rescued by our brave lifeguards. May the soul of Kiran RIP. At this time of the year, the sea is unpredictable. Even expert swimmers are unable to overcome the high waves.
