Mangaluru, Sep 12: Chairman of Vikas institutions and former minister Krishna J Palemar informed on Tuesday, September 12 that Vikas Education Trust will conduct awareness workshop on the 'Blue Whale' challenge game.
Addressing media he said, “Vikas Education Trust has taken up the task of visiting more than 100 schools and colleges in Dakshina Kannada district to create awareness of the pitfalls in such many games among the young generation. We have written a letter to education department and the deputy commissioner seeking permission to conduct workshop on this deadly game. Once we receive the nod from the administration, we will conduct the workshops. We will also distribute the booklets to schools and colleges in the district in connection ‘Blue Whale’ challenge game to create awareness among the students.”
He also said, “We have 50 faculties at Vikas College and have trained them on creating awareness among students on this dangerous game. Each faculty will visit at least three schools and convey the message in connection to this deadly game.”
He further said, “This game has claimed several lives of students across the country and there are some suspected cases in Karnataka too. People in Dakshina Kannada need to be very careful and alert. Parents should be responsible and keep their children away from cell phones. The government should support this cause. To acquire a driving license, you need to cross attain 18 years of age. Similarly students should be permitted to use cell phones only after they attain 18 years of age.”
Vikas Education Trust advisor Dr Ananth Prabhu said, “Similar to’Blue Whale’ challenge, 'Sarahah' is also a dangerous app. Nearly 10 million people have downloaded this app which is an anonymous snapchat app. Once we register to the app, we will get a link and it connects to Facebook or Instagram. An anonymous person will send a message which can be threats, or blackmail messages. Teenagers are being targeted. So we urge students not to download ‘Sarahah’ app.”
