Kundapur, Sep 12: Activists of pro-Hindu organizations handed over five college students to the personnel of the police station here on Monday September 11 evening. They alleged that the students were behaving indecently in public.
Two male and three female students from Kaup area had arrived at Maravanthe beach near here in a car. Activists of Hindu organizations said that the students had exceeded norms of decorum and decency at the beach. The activists chased the students, intercepted their vehicle near Koteshwar bypass road and brought them back to the police station here.
The students, who grew panicky at this development, provided to police officials details of their parents, purpose of their visit here etc. Later, they were released from the police station.
Police circle inspector, Nasir Hussain and circle inspector, Manjappa, criticized the activists of Hindu organizations for chasing the students and bringing them to police station unnecessarily, duly pointing out that the group also contained brother-sister duo. They reminded the activists that they do not have the right to take law into their hands.
The activists got angry at this, and said that they had brought the students here after witnessing their indecent behaviour at Maravanthe. They said that they had given advance information to police before bringing them here, and that they had not harassed the students. They asserted that youngsters when seated in the car at Maravanthe were behaving obscenely. This gave rise to tension but in course of time issues were sorted out and things calmed down.
