Mangaluru, Sep 11: The new block of Lady Goschen Hospital, which has been under construction for quite sometime, has reached completion stage will be inaugurated in another four months in the presence of union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The project is jointly sponsored by MRPL and ONGC, with the government chipping in Rs 10 crore.
Interacting with the media at the new building of Lady Goschen Hospital here on Monday September 11, managing director of MRPL H Kumar said, "Today we reviewed the progress of the new block of Lady Goschen Hospital. Hopefully, we will be able to inaugurated it in four months' time.
"Deputy commissioner Dr K G Jagadeesha has shown keen interest in the development of the hospital. ONGC and MRPL have jointly sanctioned Rs 21.70 crore, out of which MRPL's share of investment is Rs 8.92 crore and ONGC's Rs 12.78 crore.
"Overall, work worth Rs 16.25 crore has been completed. Additional 1.25 crore was sanctioned for equipment, beds, cots and special bed," he added.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "About 90% of the work has been completed. This is the first CSR-funded government hospital. ONGC and MRPL have shown keen interest in this project. Central minister Dharmendra Pradhan has agreed to be part of the inaugural function.
"The work on the 5th and the 6th floors is pending. We have requested to speed up the work. This will be one of the quality hospitals of the region. Out of the estimated budget of Rs 35 crore, the government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore. We are planning to make this a 500-bed hospital, with 332 beds from the old hospital building and 168 new beds.
"Apart from this project, MRPL has also joined hands to upgrade schools and hospitals, and construct toilets in remote areas, such as Kateel school and Sanjeevini Nursing Home at Kateel. It will provide a science lab at Venur government school, and construct toilets near Polali temple," he added.
MRPL group general manager B H V Prasad and Lady Goschen Hospital superintendent Dr Shakuntala were present.
