Mangaluru, Sep 9: The rhythm of music was all over St Aloysius PU College on September 9, as it celebrated the ‘Musical Day 2017’, a day to embark the talents of young musicians and artists performing on stage and gave them a platform to rise and shine.
The occasion commenced with a devotional song by the coordinators followed by a grand welcome dance. The programme was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Ashwin D’Costa, a playback singer and also an alumnus of the college advised the students to be focused and not be distracted or influenced by the social media and gaming and also said that jealousy and selfishness may curb their upliftment but they should never give up as life is full of opportunity.
Fr Melwin Mendonca, principal, St Aloysius PU College applauded the efforts of students for their accomplishments in various areas and said that the campus has given a platform to grow and also said that the musicians are messengers who promote diversity. He urged the students to develop soft skills and values and thus become men and women for and with others.
Rector Fr Dionysius Vaz expressed that music is food for the soul. When all the notes come together, there is symphony and rhythm and this vibration should bring together all culture, religion and languages and make us united as one Nation, he said.
The special efforts of some of the teachers were appreciated by felicitating them.
Laveena D’Souza, convener, welcomed the gathering and Rhea Monteiro, secretary of Music Association rendered the vote of thanks.

Vice-principal Charlotte D’Souza was also present.
After the formal programme, the Musical Day kicked off with a rocking performance by Ashwin D’Costa. The students staged a vibrant musical show mesmerizing the audience to feel the vibes of music.
