Mangaluru, Sep 8: “Teaching is a noble profession and it is teachers’ who contribute to the society by creating quality of students. Only one who has cent percent good qualities and attitude, backed with knowledge can be a good teacher. So, teachers need to focus on quality, as quantity only fills but quality fulfils,” said chief guest Kumara, KAS, the additional deputy commissioner and additional district magistrate of Dakshina Kannada at the Teachers’ Day celebration at Expert PU College, Valachil.

The formal programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The dignitaries and guests paid homage to Dr S. Radhakrishnan, the former president of India by offering floral tributes. Students honoured the teachers with flowers and mementos.

Addressing the students, vice-chairperson of Expert Group of Institutions Ushaprabha N Nayak said that students should get inspired by Dr S Radhakrishnan. Teachers’ Day is not a mere occasion of celebration, but students must try to understand its significance and contribution of teachers and be grateful to them.

Vidyasharadha, department of Kannada and Subramanya Udupa, department of Mathematics, spoke on behalf of the entire teaching community.

Prof Narendra L Nayak, the chairman of Expert Educational Institutions in his presidential address said that not only do teachers place the building blocks of one’s life, they play an integral role in shaping a students personality and future.

The formal programme was followed by a cultural extravaganza by teachers. Rahul Shivanandchandu, president, Student Parliament welcomed the gathering and Vrinda Prabhu, joint general secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. Sahana Girthimalli compered the programme.

Principal Dr N.K Vijayan, vice-principal Gurudutt N, Rakshith M R, programme director and teachers were present.
