Koppa, Sep 8: Various organisations have lodged a police complaint against former minister and Sringeri MLA D N Jeevaraj of BJP for his controversial remarks relating to journalist Gauri Lankesh’s murder.
Jeevaraj had said that Gauri would not have been murdered if she had not used the words ‘Cheddigala Maarana Homa’ meaning ‘genocide of RSS workers’ in her tabloid ‘Gauri Lankesh Patrike’
He had made the statement after flagging of the ‘Mangaluru Chalo’ rally taken out by the BJP Yuva Morcha in Koppa on Wednesday, September 6.
Taluk Raitha Sangha president Navin Karuvane filed a complaint with Koppa police praying to examine the evidence and initiate action against the MLA. Navin said in the complaint that he suspected the role of Jeevaraj behind the murder of Gauri as he held a grudge against her after the details of corruption during his tenure as food and civil supplies minister in the BJP government was exposed by her paper.
Koppa police station inspector D N Kumar said that the complaint will be forwarded to the Bengaluru police where a case has been registered in connection with Gauri’s murder.
Congress leaders H S Inesh, Nuggi Manjunath and Vijayakumar were present when the complaint was lodged.
Jeevaraj has regretted his remarks by saying he had used some words in haste and there was no bad intention behind it.
The audio clip of Jeevaraj making the statement on Gauri’s murder went viral on Thursday attracting widespread criticism.
CM Siddaramaiah questioned the BJP MLA’s motive behind the remarks and opined that the statement indicated who was behind the murder.
