Mangaluru, Sep 7: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel of BJP is in the news again for threatening the police.
Soon after police detained 850 BJP leaders and workers for crossing the barricades and attempting to march to Nehru Maidan in violation of the ban on rally during 'Mangaluru Chalo' protest here on Thursday September 7, MP Nalin Kumar was caught in a video that purpotedly shows him pointing fingers a police inspector and threatening to call for a bandh.
The video went viral in no time, widely shared on WhatsApp and other social media networks.
In the video, Nalin Kateel is seen purportedly threatening the police over detention of BJP members for violating the orders against the rally. He allegedly threatened the police of calling a district-wide bandh.
The incident was recorded at Gorakshanath Jnana Mandir in Kadri, where the police had detained several BJP party workers.
"I will call for a district-wide bandh within half-an-hour," an angry Nalin told Kadri police inspector Maruthi Nayak.
The police were had detained several BJP members including BJP women's wing members. On receiving information about this, Nalin arrived at the spot and took the police to task.
In the video, when the inspector calls his senior on phone, Nalin is seen trying to snatch away the phone from him and banging the table while issuing threat to call for bandh.
Police sources said that there may be possibility of booking Nalin Kumar for obstructing duty and threatening the police.
This is not the first time MP Nalin Kateel has made headines for issuing threats. Earlier this year, during a protest demanding arrest of culprits behind the murder of Karthik Raj, he had threatened to set Dakshina Kannada district on fire if the police fail to make arrests within 10 days. The murder, however, turned out be the result of a sibling rivalry.
