Udupi: Thieves break window glass of parked car - escape with cash, jewellery

Udupi, Sep 6: In an incident which happened near Hosa Marigudi at Kaup on Tuesday September 5, thieves broke open the window glass of a parked car and took away cash and golden ornaments kept inside. As per an estimate, a family which had arrived at the shrine to pay obeisance to the goddess, had left behind a vanity bag containing items worth Rs 2.45 lac, which the thieves accessed.

Armugam (51), resident of Nelligudde, Miyyar and native of Karkala, and his wife, Laxmi, were returning home after attending a programme in the house of their daughter at Halladi in Kundapur taluk. On their way, they had stopped their vehicle at Kaup to visit Hosa Marigudi. Their vehicle had been parked to the north side of Marigudi, and the woman had left her vanity bag inside the Maruti Omni van when visiting the shrine.

The couple had the darshan of the goddess and partaken the community feast arranged there. When they returned, they found that the window glass of their van had been shattered, and the vanity bag kept inside had been taken away by unknown thieves. It is said that the vanity bag contained four golden chains,seven rings, and Rs 5,000 in cash, totally worth Rs 2.45 lac.

Although there are CCTV cameras inside and outside Marigudi, the thieves took advantage of the fact that there are no cameras to the north side.

A complaint was filed in Kaup police station.
