Bengaluru, Sep 6: The police have enhanced the security provided to mines and geology minister Vinay Kulkarni following reports that a Thailand-based don has been given a contract to eliminate the minister.

Hubballi-Dharwad police commissioner M N Nagaraj said that he has received direction from higher-ups in Bengaluru to provide security to the minister after it was revealed about the contract to kill him.

He also said that probe is on to find out where the threat came from and how the alleged contract was given.

Meanwhile, Vinay Kulkarni, who is also the district in-charge minister of Dharwad district asserted that he had no idea about the threat and that he did not suspect anyone as of now for the reported plot to eliminate him.

“I do not know anything about someone being given a contract to eliminate me. I am not afraid and not bothered,” he said.

Some media reports suggested that a Shivamogga-based rowdy-sheeter, who is now operating from Thailand, has been given ‘supari’ to kill the minister.

It was not clear who had given the contract. The media reports attribute the information to intelligence wing of the police.
