Mangaluru, Sep 5: In a heart-breaking news reported here on Tuesday September 5, a pedestrian lay unconscious with head injuries at the busy KS Rao Road for almost an hour, even as passersby took pictures and videos of him.
The pedestrian fell down the unbarricaded basement just outside Joy Alukkas jewellery store in Mischief mall here.
Though several people were around, none of them came to his rescue, it is said. Instead, they took out their mobile phones and captured his photos and videos.
After almost an hour, the traffic police arrived and took him away. The pedestrian sustained head injuries from the fall.
The police called 108 ambulance but their request was turned down, it is said. The police then called an auto rickshaw and with the help of home guards and admitted the man to Wenlock hospital.
Dangerous underground basement
The basement is around 8 ft deep and constructed next to the roadside without any barricade. Hundreds of people walk along this road every day.
It is however, not exactly known whether the pedestrian lost balance or fainted while passing along this road. Nevertheless, eyewitnesses said that a barricade would have save him from falling into the basement and sustaining injuries.
No case has been registered.
