Udupi: One dead, three injured as Innova car hits bus at Udyavar

Udupi, Sep 4: One person died and three others were seriously injured after an Innova car hit a bus from behind at Udyavar on national highway here on Monday, September 4.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Mirshad (20) from Uppala

His friends Naufal (21), Mohammed Irshad (21), Fawaz (21) and Zakir (20), also from Uppala, sustained serious injuries.

The private bus was plying from Udupi towards Kaup. Innova car with Maharashtra registration was following it. When the bus stopped for passengers to get down at Udyavar, Innova hit it from behind.

A driving license found in the car has the address of Kerala. 

The injured have been admitted to hospital.

Mirshad was an employee at a garment shop in Uppala.

    Dear All,

    Those who are not aware of the international rule,
    here are few droving rules for the safety of all
    1.maintain distance from each vehicle 1 meter for every ten meter speed.
    Eg @60kms keep 6 meters distance. If you bang the fault is always the behind vehicle and not the front one.

    2.stop vehicle at a distance where you can see the rear tyres (full)of front vehicle.
    3.no mobile,alcohol,etc while driving.
    4.check your vehicle once a week .
    5.make use of all three mirrors every minute.Check for blind spot and careful.
    6.use indicators when lane change,turning becos you are not paying for electricity.
    7.when in roundabout,learn how to enter and exit.
    8.seat belt is must.

    Hope this will help many those who are not aware
    These are not taught in Indian driving classes.

    People were blaming wine shops on highways for accidents. But it proved that wine shops are not the only reason. There are various reasons. People don't follow rules. They just think that they are kings on roads behind wheels.

    NH66 is multipurpose road:

    1. Super fast highway
    2. Local road
    3. Bicycle road
    4. Bus stop
    5. Several other purposes like flower sellers etc.,

    We see all kind of speeds in this road and in all direction.

    Authorities build highways but there is no service road, there is no parking or bus stop bay, bicycle and fast cars go in same lane, people cross wherever they want as there is no proper pass through.

    Then we see these kind of accidents.

    Who is responsible?

    Yes you are right, however many a times we have seen people trying to stop buses somewhere in between bus stops or wherever they want. Bus drivers then travelling at 80kmph suddenly brake. In this situation even if you are travelling at a safe distance you are prone to hit the bus or even if you avoid, the vehicle behind you will crash into you.

    Safe distance means one should keep his vehicle 8 metre away from the vehicle in the front.One should be able to see the rear wheel of the front vehicle.But in practical,in congested and developing city it is not possible to adhere to the traffic rule strictly.At least one metre gap can be kept between the vehicles in order to avoid any unexpected mishaps.But people who are on the wheel once,think that they can do anything they want,they are the heroes.Driving thrills but it kills.

    8 Meters? Where did that come from? If you are travelling in a highway @ 90Kmph, then you are treading around 25 meters per second!!! At this speed and 8 meters distance means you have no hope left.

    The concept of 'safe distance' is term relative to speed; and also other factors such as weather, the daylight condition, road condition etc. Most developed countries in the world use a '3-second rule' rather than distance as a guide. So whether you are travelling at 20 Kmph or 100 Kmph, if you maintain at least 3 second gap from the vehicle in front of you, you would have a reasonable chance of stopping your vehicle. (Fyi, this 3-second rule equates to a gap of 75 meters @ 90Kmph). And at night time, this would probably increase to a '4-second rule'.

    Just to remember, last to last week I had been to Mangalore on long weekend and for a Change I was riding from nanthoor to Someshwara beach ullala with my friend and while crossing Nethravathi river bridge ( I was @40Km/h speed and was enjoying river view) and when I suddenly saw right mirror. The innova car was trying to overtake City service bus BUT bus driver was not allowing him to overtake from right.. as bus was moving on very right side of the bridge and its was happening approx. 50 meters behind us and within few seconds it was like the innova car is almost hitting our bike ,,.. Friend sitting on back seat shouted loudly then I speeded up and the innova driver braked suddenly..god is great and we were lucky that we missed the accident in a very close distance. Otherwise myself and my friend would have been thrown out to nethravathi river as we were exactly in the middle of the bridge...and in nova car was moving at the speed of 80 to 100 km/h..it’s like heart breathing experience. You may become scapegoat even after having no fault at your end.. and then he slowed down the vehicle. We shouted on him he said he was trying to overtake city bus but bus suddenly took left so he had no option than taking sudden left... he was local driver one can easily guess that. And when I asked him how are you supposed to overtake from left side? He had no answer for that. And he was too nervous as he realized his mistake. So we didn’t question him further. You cannot say you are safe even after riding at 40km/h speed that is the reality of INDIAN roads and the way people following traffic rule.

    by the by what's "Safe Distance" ?
    Not trained properly
    Not tested properly
    License will reach home in India

    Terrible accident...
    Most probably these car driver thought some two wheeler is ahead to run over...
    In India most of the vehicles are not driven with respect. Endangering life of self and others in the process...

    I always feel low confident while driving from UDUPI to MANGLORE and voice versa just because the way other vehicles are flying on this HIGHWAY. But in Mumbai its altogether different story...you dont have to bother about other vehicles provided you are driving/riding safely even during peak hours.
