Belagavi, Aug 31: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) women wing president Laxmi Hebbalkar has courted controversy after she made pro-Maharashtra statement on August 27.
“I will be the first to say Jai Maharashtra,” statement made by Hebbalkar has gone viral.
Hebbalkar was addressing a programme at Basarikatti village in Belagavi taluk. The address was made in Hindi. The audio clip says that she would be the first to say Jai Maharashtra with flag of that state in her hands if the Supreme Court gives its verdict in favour of the neighbouring state.
“I do not fear anyone except God and my parents. I am not concerned with language and caste. Only the development of constituency is my concern. So I speak like this with courage. Others do not dare to speak,” she said.
It is claimed that while Hebbalkar spoke these words people were seen cheering, whistling and applauding her.
Hebbalkar is also heard uttering Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti slogan in Marathi ‘Jhalach Pahije’ which means ‘it has to happen’.
“Marathi speaking people have been meted injustice and youth are not getting employment,” Hebbalkar is heard saying in the audio clip.
Without naming Member of Parliament Suresh Angadi and MLA Sanjay Patil, Hebbalkar alleged that they have grabbed 400 acres of farmers’ lands after construction of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.
Hebbalkar was not available for comment after the audio clip went viral.
