Udupi, Aug 30: Three persons including a child were injured after a speeding bus rammed into an auto rickshaw in which they were travelling, at Shiribeedu here on Wednesday Auugust 30.
Arathi (42) and her daughter Sunaina (10) were returning by auto rickshaw from a visit to Adarsh hospital when the accident took place.
It is learnt that when they reached Shiribeedu, a Durgamba express bus plying from Udupi to Kundapur rammed into the auto rickshaw from behind. The road is one-way.
The impact of the accident was such that the auto rickshaw overturned, causing grievous injuries to Arathi and Sunaina.
Auto driver Sandeep also sustained injuries.
As soon as the accident occured, locals and passersby rushed to help the victims, and shifted them to hospital.
The bus driver claimed that his vehicle had a brake fail, but the people said that on inspection of the bus, the brake did not appear to have any defect.
The locals said that the accident occured because the bus was being driven at a high speed on the narrow, one-way road.
Auto driver Sandeep had taken the mother and the daughter to Adarsh hospital and was bringing them back.
Following the accident, traffic was affected for sometime.
A case has been registered.
