Mangaluru, Aug 28: Under the smart city project, several roads within the vicinity of State Bank area will soon get transformed into smart roads at an expenditure of about Rs 300 crore. Out of them, the stretch of the road between A B Shetty Circle and the circle in front of mini Vidhan Soudha will be the first to go through this change.
On August 26, approval was given for the project aimed at turning this 500-metre-stretch of the road into smart road. The decision was taken at the second meeting of special purpose vehicle formed to execute smart city plan held at the city corporation office on Saturday. Project management consultant will prepare detailed project report relating to this sanction within a month. Tender process for the project has to be completed within 30 days. After this road is developed, other roads at the hub of the city are planned to be developed in phases, and towards this end, the city has been divided into divisions for planned development.
As per plan, 100 acres of area of which Nehru Maidan is an important part, Hampankatta area encompassing 27 acres, Bunder, fisheries area and Bunder, apart from roads surrounding temples and religious centres will undergo a change of face. Hospitals, IT development, small industrires, health care centres, tiles factory, Wenlock and Lady Goschen Hospitals etc will also form part of the plan earmarked for development of smart roads. Roads leading to river banks and seashore will also be taken up for development.
In addition, the next step is to facilitate people to get their work done on the spot without having to move around city corporation, police department, regional transport office, governmetn departments etc. For this purpose, 'Onetouch Mangaluru' app will be developed which the concerned hope, will function in all the 60 wards of the city. Preparation of detailed project report for this project has also been permitted, and the city corporation hopes that people will get timely messages from departments about load shedding, collection of garbage that day, etc. The mobile app will provide services like city guide, emergency service, buiding licence and information about other facilities, parking lots, passport verification, driving licence details, information about roads, water supply, ration cards etc.
City mayor, Kavita Sanil, said that the project is being implemented with the participation of central, state governments as well as the city corporation here. She said that at the second meeting of special purpose vehicle, first phase of project was given the go ahead.
