Sullia, Aug 28: An individual was handed over to the police by residents of Kollamogru-Kalmakaru village, duly accusing him of indulging in religious conversion.
The accused happens to be Dorairaju from Kallugundi in the taluk. He was taken into custody by personnel of Subrahmanya police station in the taluk.
Dorairaju, it is claimed, used to visit some houses in Kollamogru and Kalmakaru areas often and his visits evoked suspicion. In the past, the villagers had sent him back with a warning when he visited houses of some Hindus including dalits and offered prayers there.
During Dorairaju's visit to the village on Saturday August 26 night, the villagers questioned him and checked his bag. They found rubber seal and receipt books standing in the name of a particular centre of prayer. He was later handed over to the police.
The locals say that the accused, who is of Tamil Nadu origin, had got converted into Christianity and that he was trying to influence others to follow suit. Reportedly in the past too a case had been registered against him when he was trying to pressurize someone into getting converted into his religion.
