Sullia: P N Bhat of Balila school chosen for National Award for Teachers

Sullia, Aug 27: P N Bhat (59), assistant teacher of Vidyabodhini Kannada Medium Aided High School, Balila in the taluk, has been chosen for National Award for Teachers. This award is being given annually in recognition of the contributions of teachers, and are handed over to the selected teachers by the President of India at Teachers Day function being organized at New Delhi on September 5 every year.

Union human resources development ministry gives away these awards. Bhat has been chosen for this coveted award for the year 2016. The award comprises cash component of Rs 50,000, a silver medal, and citation. Bhat has been selected for this award, considering his participation in over a hundred resource development trainings, innovative teaching method for science, organizing of spots meets, socially relevant activities etc and multi-faceted personality of Bhat. P N Bhat has already won over ten district state and national awards including the prestigious C N R Rao Award for best national level science teacher.

Bhat joined service as assistant teacher in Nelaji high school at Ballamavati, Kodagu. After serving there for six years, he joined Balila school. Since the last 29 years, he has been teaching mathematics and science there. He will retire from service upon attaining superannuation in November, 2018.

The late Kayara Vedamurthy Shyam Bhat and Susheela from Mupperya were Bhat's parents. His wife, Parameshwari, works as junior engineer in BSNL Bellare unit. His son, Mahesh, works for Facebook at Seattle, USA, after obtaining postgraduate degree in computer science from Texas University. Daughter, Madhura, is second year student at Expert PU College, Valachil.

This is a proud moment for this taluk, as it has bagged national award for teachers thrice. B V Shagrithaya, head teacher of this school, who happened to be the teacher for P N Bhat during his student days, had won this award in 2003. Thereafter, K R Gangadhar of Nehru Memorial College, Aranthodu, had bagged it in 2006.

    In between our reservations if given chance few Bhats, Hebbar's and Tantry in the job would have uplifted our country much more! These are the few left fabrics in otherwise waste mass in every govt paid jobs! Look at any govt document...pan , adhar,ration, etc...ur lucky rarely if everything right without usual typo! Or it's usual efficiency! Votes and power mate! We r ready for the worst! Reservation is must for economically poor not by religion or cast!
