Hyderabad: Qatar Airways flight makes emergency landing as pilot falls sick

Hyderabad, Aug 26: A Qatar Airways passenger flight made an emergency landing at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here on Saturday, August 25 after the co-pilot of the aircraft suddenly fell ill.

The flight was on its way to Denpasar in Bali. It had taken off from Doha on its 14-hour journey.

There were 240 passengers plus crew on the flight, said airport sources.

The co-pilot named Andre Dinu (34), a Romanian by nationality, complained of severe pain in heart and lungs during the flight. It was decided to land the flight and flight made a medical emergency landing after midnight.

The airport doctors attended to Andre immediately after landing. Then he was rushed to Apollo hospital nearby. Hospital sources said his condition was critical.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways is said to have made an alternative arrangements for the stranded passengers to reach the destination.

    In emergency situations it doesn't matter if the closest airport has best medical facilities nearby. It depends on the type of aircraft and if the runway can safely handle the aircraft. In non-emergency situations it is the person's choice where he/she wants to take the medical care as it depends on his /her budget. Some people might choose US as the medical staff can be sued for negligence. Some people might choose Singapore as it has the same facility but it might not be possible to sue the medical staff & it is much closer. People from Arab countries & some of our neighboring countries choose India as medical care is cheap and also it is far better than their countries. But when it comes to critical care & old age nursing US is the best as medical care is insured.

    I don't think US govt provides free medical care to all it's citizens, one has to remove his own insurance or provided by company!!

    Moreover medical care in US is very costly, 10-15x costlier than for same procedure in India with equal results!!

    If medical care is 10-15 times expensive than in India then $ has 60-70 times more value than ₹ & is world's most stable currency with low inflation. Medical care is free in UK, Canada & may be in Australia and some other countries, but here to maintain the standard of healthcare it is insured and everyone pays premium, deductible, copay etc., depending on their income. Research & cure on immunity related diseases like cancer is not possible with free medicine. Here the positive outcome of these disease is more compared to other countries which is why people for such care come over here. Even the hospitals in India use US equipment for treatment of cancer, the latest being IBM Watson which I believe is connected to the Internet to get most up-to date treatment & works through AI. Here they have already got cure for some genetically related cancers. All this is possible only if medical care is insured.

    My dear I am telling to do the medical before the flight for captain & the cabin crew to avoid the fatality. Don't be a scientists. Nobody can avoid the fatalities. But we can take the precautions. If the Pilot is a heart patient he should not be in the cockpit. Hope you understand now ? right !

    No HiFi med checkup in the world can guarantee that the subject will not suffer a major heart attack or stroke soon thereafter!!

    Afflicted pilot appears to have gotten a "pulmonary embolism", which is common in long distance air travel!!

    Firstly, there is always a copilot who can take charge in an emergency n safely land the aircraft; secondly, India is known world over for its medical expertise, n majority of medical tourists r from Arab nations!!

    Since it's the co-pilot who fell sick, there are two emergencies, one, there is no redundant pilot to fly the plane and the other is that co-pilot needs medical care. The aircraft's computer system must be having updated information about the closest airport to land.

    @Suresh Moodbidri,why are you dancing out of the line?When Sonja is going outside of India for treatment ,it is her wish.Everyone is free to go anywhere as they want. Noone is tied to take treatment in owns country.she was and is not in a emergency treatment list.let it out:Noone is against the emergency health sure.It can happen to anyone.Here poor chap must have his bad day and unluckily had breathing difficulty.Thank God they immediately did emergency landing,and is in hospital.So far all is well.lets pray for his health.Good he got sick where immediate help was available.What when in a place where nearby no good equipement was not available.Thats why we should be always be prepared of a ill health .
