Kundapur, Aug 26: A minor scuffle broke out between youths of different communities during Ganeshotsava rally at Jogur in Byndoor here on Friday, August 25.
A procession was being carried out with the idol of Lord Ganesh which taken for installation from Venkatramana temple, Dasavadi to Shankernarayana temple premises in Jogur. The trouble began when the rally which was proceeding on the public road near Bukari colony mosque, Shiroor was allegedly waylaid by residents identified as Younus, Samir, Faeek, Ilyas Usman Saheb, Yasin and Samil.
It is reported that Younus, Samir and Ilyas Usman Saheb held stones and footwear in their hands and warned the members of the procession not to carry out the rally on the road. It is said that they threatened to set fire to the vehicle if procession proceeded on the road, and warned against holding such procession in future.
A case was registered at Byndoor police station on the basis of complaint received from Ganeshotsava Samiti president Vinayak Jogur.
Bajrang Dal to protest on August 28
Right-wing outfit Bajrang Dal has called for a protest condemning Friday's incident. The protest will be held on August 28 at 3 pm at Byndoor circle.
