Bengaluru, Aug 24: Former Union Minister C M Ibrahim, who recently resigned as Deputy Chairman of Karnataka’s Planning Board, has been officially declared elected as a MLC representing the ruling Congress party.
Karnataka Legislative Assembly Secretary in-charge S Murthy, who is also the returning officer, announced the unopposed election of Ibrahim as the MLC on Thursday.
The by-election to fill up the vacancy caused by the demise of BJP’s Vimala Gowda. Ibrahim’s was the only nomination paper to be filed while BJP and JD(S) had not fielded their candidates.
However, the term of the newly elected member will end in June 2018.
Ibrahim had served as Union Minister in the H D Deve Gowda government.
He lost the 2013 Assembly elections from Bhadravati constituency in Shivamogga district. He was later accommodated as Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board.
